About The Workshop

This 5-day hands-on online GIS workshop focuses on real-world site suitability analysis using open-source GIS tools. You will work step by step on criteria selection, data preparation, reclassification, weighted overlay analysis, and suitability mapping to produce a decision-ready site suitability map and mini project.

Workshop Focus

  • Principles of site suitability analysis and planning logic.

  • Criteria and constraint selection using raster and vector data in QGIS.

  • Reclassification and standardization of suitability layers.

  • Weighted overlay and scenario-based suitability analysis.

  • Suitability index mapping, layout design, and reporting.

Hands-On Agenda (Day-Wise)

  • Day 1: Introduction to site suitability analysis, applications, criteria vs constraints, study area selection, and base project setup.

  • Day 2: Criteria development, slope and distance analysis, raster and vector data preparation.

  • Day 3: Reclassification techniques and standardization of suitability layers.

  • Day 4: Weighted overlay analysis and scenario-based evaluation.

  • Day 5: Final suitability zoning, map layout creation, interpretation, and mini project submission.
